The 1st Summer Camp of Institute of Nuclear Safety Technology, Chinese Academy of Sciences (INEST) was held on Aug.18-22, 2012 in Hefei, Anhui. A number of 40 undergraduates from universities around China came to join the five-day camp, including University of Science and Technology of China, Xi'an Jiaotong University, Sichuan University, Tianjin University, etc.
The camp included academic lectures and research practice on reactor safety, radiation safety and environmental impact, nuclear emergency and public safety, nuclear energy and security software simulation. Campers were introduced to many of the latest research progresses and results within nuclear area and understood more about INEST through all kinds of recreational and sports activities such as volleyball and institute party.
Students-and-professors interactions and get-togethers draw students ever closer to the charm of academic research. Many students said they had broadened their horizons and were highly inspirited by enterprising, hard-working, ready to take on responsibilities, and devoted to work from each personnel of INEST.
Professor Yican Wu, director of INEST, addressed the closing ceremony of the summer camp, saying that the camp was a success and plans are underway to make it an annual event, which is aimed at offering youth the opportunity to explore different knowledge as well as sense of innovation and team spirit, and work on the nuclear energy research with further understanding.
