INEST·FDS Team Members Attended the 17th International Conference of Fusion Reactor Materials (ICFRM-17)

The 17th International Conference of Fusion Reactor Materials (ICFRM-17) was held in Aachen, Germany during Oct.11-16, 2015. It is one of the most important conferences of the fusion materials, aiming to report the research status of fusion material and to enhance collaboration. It will provide helpful suggestions and guiding for ITER and the development of fusion materials and reactor design. About 360 participants from China, European Union, Japan, USA, Russia, etc. attended it.

In the ICFRM-17, 7 oral presentations from China were accepted, and 4 of them were from FDS Team. Prof. Qunying Huang gave an oral presentation entitled on “overall progress and strategy of the CLAM project for TBM procurement”. She was also invited to present a subject report on R&D activities and development strategy on CLAM in the satellite meeting of IAE RAFM steels. These presentations attracted much attention from the audience. In addition, in the plenary presentation of RAFM steels, Dr. Lizhen Tan from ORNL parallely introduced CLAM as well as Eurofer97 and F82H, which are the three main RAFM steels in the world. It shows that FDS Team has becoming the leading research team in the field of RAFM steel research.

As the principle research team on R&D of RAFM steel in China, FDS Team has conducted the relevant research for about 15years and successfully developed the CLAM steel with the independent intellectual property rights. Up to now, CLAM has been selected as the primary candidate material for CN ITER-TBM by the Ministry of Science and Technology (MOST) of China. In order to help the design and building of ITER-TBM, INEST·FDS Team is conducting the ITER qualification for CLAM steel, which will provide the foundation for the industrial applications of CLAM steel.
